Curling vs Hockey

What is it?

The junior program is designed for aspiring curlers 7-18 years of age. Our innovative Learn to Curl program offers a three level development program led by a group of experienced instructors. The distinct levels maximize enjoyment, and at the same time ensure that our curlers develop in a progressive manner. The cost is $105 plus HST.

Where do I get my equipment?

All new curlers will start off with sliding tape on their shoe, which will be provided every week. As curlers become more comfortable on the ice, coaches will decide when they are ready to start using a slider, and will provide each student with one complimentary slider as a part of the program. After that, all you need is a helmet (hockey or ski), clean shoes, and loose, warm clothing. Brooms are provided on a weekly basis. If you prefer, you can purchase a curling broom and shoes.

When do you play?

The Junior Curling Season begins at the end of October and concludes generally around the first week of April. All Levels of Junior Curlers will play on Sundays. Specific times will be comfirmed closer to the beginning of the season.

What are the levels?

Level 1 – Beginner

This is the BEST starting point for a young curler. Starting as young as 7, these clinics are suited for beginning curlers up to 11 years of age. It is an excellent atmosphere to introduce juniors to the beginning basics.

Level 2 – Intermediate

This program is designed for young curlers who have mastered the basics of the game, and are comfortable playing with heavier rocks. Level 2's will continue to develop their skills, with a focus on finetuning specific parts of the delivery, learning the basics of strategy, and playing full-size games according to league regulations

Level 3 – Advanced

After becoming comfortable with gameplay, curlers have the option to move to the advanced program, where on-ice skills will be developed further, along with lessons on strategy, sweeping, communication, and general team effectiveness.
